Home Energy Utilities Revolving Credit Fund
Working with the Municipal Light & Power we have established a revolving credit fund to support those striving for economic self-sufficiency. This fund offers low-income residents short-term assistance with paying deposits on home utilityaccounts.
· Anchorage Urban League, Municipal Light & Power (ML&P) and Credit Consumer Counseling of Alaska have joined together to assist you take the first step towards a positive financial history.
· We provide grants for electric utility deposits.
· We provide resource referrals if you need assistance in other aspects of your life.
· We provide credit counseling and budgeting to help you gain financial independence.
You will be asked to fill out a form that tells us what other needs you may have. We have contacts in the community that we can refer you to. It is not required that you provide this information and if you do it will be kept confidential. If you are eligible, you will receive a grant whether the information is provided or not.
How it works
· Apply for electric service at Municipal Light and Power (ML&P) at 1200 East First Avenue.
· Customer Service representative reviews application for referral.
· If you qualify, you may go the Urban League office at 208 East Fourth Avenue between the hours of 10am to 2pm Monday through Friday to receive a grant.
· Urban League staff will ask you to fill out a form that will enable us to provide you with the possibility of other services.
· Upon graduation you will earn a positive credit rating and you will be on your way to economic health.
· You may contact the Urban League at any time for information and assistance in meeting your other family and financial needs.
